OVERVIEW

Teams of two representing a single organization can sign up to compete against other pairs of two in the classic lawn games of cornhole, spikeball, washers and ladder ball. Games will take place on Meier Commons and the top three placing teams in each homecoming division will receive points. All game supplies will be provided. Games will be self-refereed by teams and judges walking around the playing area.

Organizations can select up to 8 individuals to compete in teams of 2 in each of the four lawn game divisions (Cornhole, Ladderball, Washers or Spikeball). Individuals will only be allowed to play in one of the four divisions. i.e. Individuals cannot compete in both washers and ladderball. If organizations want to compete in all four divisions, they must select different individuals for each of the four divisions for a total of 8 individual players.

The bracket is created randomly:

  • The first round of play will be between teams of the same division. (RSOs, IFC, etc.)
  • Play will continue this way for as many rounds as needed to declare winners of each division.
  • Division winners will then compete against one another so an overall tournament champion can be named.

This is a single-elimination bracket-style event.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

Any organization or group of students may enter one team of two to compete for points in their respective category. Additionally, teams of two not representing an organization, can sign up to compete on a first-come-first-serve basis in a separate bracket.

Points are only awarded to the top three teams in each category that sign-up for the event via this registration and represent an organization. Teams must register prior to the event via the Homecoming Registration link.

RULES
  1. Teams must check in at least 10 minutes in advance of their first game. If a team is not present by their starting time, they will be disqualified from the tournament and the opposing team will automatically advance to the next round.
  2. Once checked-in, each team will play rock, paper, scissors, where the winner picks to pitch first, or a side of the field to play from. Each team will stay on their side for the whole game.
  3. One player on each team will pitch, alternating pitches between teams until each player has pitched all four of their bags. The team that is losing is first to pitch each inning.
  4. An inning is completed each time all eight bags are thrown, after which score is recorded using the “cancellation” scoring method described below.
  5. The first team to 21 points wins the game. Scores are reported to event volunteers.

SCORING

CORNHOLE:

  • A bag that is thrown in the hole of the Cornhole board or otherwise falls into the hole of the board (knocked in by another player or an act of God). 3 points.
  • A bag that is not in the hole but lands with any portion of the bag resting on the Cornhole board. 1 point.
  • A bag that does not land in the hole or on the board. 0 points.

Points are to be totaled at the end of each inning. The smaller score is subtracted from the larger score and the difference in points is awarded to the team scoring the most points that inning. In this scoring method, only one team can score per inning.

The first team to reach 21 wins. NO BUSTING.

WASHERS:

  • Washer in the center pipe. 3 points.
  • Washer in the box. 1 point.
  • Washer that does not land inside the target or on the board. 0 point

The first team to reach 21 wins. NO BUSTING.

LADDER BALL:

  • Top step. 3 points.
  • Middle step. 2 points.
  • Bottom step. 1 point

Players can score an optional bonus of 1 point by hanging all 3 bolas from the same step or by hanging a bola on all 3 (1-2-3) steps in 1 round. The hightest amount of points available per player is 10. This is accomplished by hanging all 3 bolas on the top (3 point) step.

The first team to reach 21 wins. NO BUSTING.

SPIKEBALL:

  • Every point counts - you don't just win a point on your serve
  • Games must be won by 2 clear points

The first team to reach 21 wins.
