Banner Contest

Homecoming banners designed by student groups are on display at Vine Street Fields in 2022.
  • ENTRIES DUE:  4 p.m. September 19, 2025   
  • BANNER DROP-OFF:  10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. September 24, 2025
    • @ Nebraska Union, Room 136 (ASUN Student Government office)
    • Banners must be DRY. Banners with wet paint will not be accepted.
    • Entries arriving after 4:30 p.m. will not be accepted. 
  • BANNER PICK-UP:  10 a.m. to 12 p.m. September 26, 2025 
    • @ Nebraska Union, Room 136 (ASUN Student Government office)
    • Fraternities, sororities, and residence halls can hang banners outside their chapter house or building.
    • All other banners will be displayed in the Nebraska Union and Nebraska East Union. These banners can be retrieved at Nebraska Union, Room 136 between October 7-10, after Homecoming Week is over. Any banner remaining after Octocter 10 will be discarded.

OVERVIEW

To use your organization's talents and creativity to develop a creative banner that reflects the Homecoming theme.


WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

This competition has three divisions:

  • Fraternity and Sorority Groups
  • Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs)
  • Residence Halls

RULES
  1. Entry is open to any residence hall, fraternity, sorority and recognized student organization. One entry per participating organization. Each fraternity & sorority chapter in an assigned Fraternity & Sorority Life
    Competition Group is responsible for submitting their own banner to be judged on an individual basis.  
  2. Entry forms must be submitted online by 4 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2025.  
  3. MAXIMUM size allowed is an extra-long twin sized bed sheet, which is approximately four (4) feet by eight (8) feet. Banners will be disqualified if they are larger.  
  4. Absolutely NO GLITTER is allowed on banners. Banners with glitter will be disqualified.  
  5. The banner must be delivered DRY to the ASUN Office (136 Nebraska Union) anytime between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. September 24, 2025. No late entries will be accepted.  
  6. Name of the residence hall, fraternity, sorority, or recognized student organization (only one name on the banner as this is not a group project) must be prominently displayed on the banner and easily identifiable. 
  7. The banner can be picked up from the ASUN office from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. September 26, 2025, to be displayed outside the residence hall, fraternity house or sorority house. All banners not picked up from the ASUN office will be hung up inside the Nebraska Union or Nebraska East Union for public viewing during Homecoming Week. 
     

JUDGING

The judges reserve the right to disqualify any groups for distasteful banners. All decisions of the judges and the Homecoming Steering Committee are final. Any questions can be directed to ASUN at 402-472-2581.

A Note on Sportsmanship: The Big Ten Spectator Code of Sportsmanship should be referenced when deciding the theme and content of a display. Entries will be judged on their ability to "respect the athletic history and traditions of each opponent," and "avoid negative comments and gestures that dishonor the teams, their schools and the Big 10" as well as the other criteria of style, creativity, originality, Husker spirit, capacity to capture and incorporate the theme and organization representation.
