WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

RULES
  1. Lawn displays MUST be completed by 9 a.m. October 4, 2024.
  2. We encourage incorporation of the golf cart in the lawn display will be judged as part of the lawn display.
  3. Judging of the lawn displays will begin promptly at 10 a.m. October 4, 2024. A representative from your Chapter must be present at the display at the time of judging.
  4. Work and design must be done by participating team members only. Assistance from persons not currently members of the group will result in disqualification from the competition.
  5. All movements must be mechanically operated. No human control or live models.
  6. In accordance with the General Overall Rules for Homecoming 2024, displays containing any material or theme considered disrespectful, inappropriate, or in poor taste, are subject to disqualification.
  7. All Fraternity & Sorority chapters assigned to the Group should have their chapter names or Greek letters posted in a location on the lawn display that is easy to see.
  8. The fire extinguisher that you picked up from the FSL office must be prominently displayed.

A Note on Sportsmanship: The Big Ten Spectator Code of Sportsmanship should be referenced when deciding the theme and content of a display. Entries will be judged on their ability to “respect the athletic history and traditions of each opponent,” and “avoid negative comments and gestures that dishonor the teams, their schools and the Big Ten” as well as the other criteria of: Style, Creativity, Originality, Husker Spirit, Capacity to Capture and Incorporate Theme, and Use of Group.

FIRE SAFETY RULES

The following rules have been developed by the City of Lincoln Bureau of Fire Safety. Strict adherence to all the rules is required. Any Chapter not in compliance with the fire safety rules will be forced to dismantle their lawn display. Fraternity & Sorority Chapters will be allowed to rebuild the lawn display provided they do so in accordance with the rules stated.

  1. Displays must allow normal access to your living unit’s entrances/exits.
  2. Displays must not block any entry or exit sidewalks and walkways.
  3. Displays may not be anchored to living units.
  4. A fire extinguisher will be provided for each living unit hosting a homecoming lawn display to have on hand while the display is being constructed. It is the responsibility of each group to make sure that the fire extinguisher is kept in close proximity to the display area. The extinguisher will be provided free of charge starting on September 27, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the FSL office (Nebraska Union, Room 220). There will be a $60.00 fee for any fire extinguishers that need to be recharged and a $200.00 fee for lost or stolen fire extinguishers. Fire extinguishers need to be returned to the FSL Office October 7, 2024 between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If they are not returned, the Group who checked out the extinguisher will be charged full replacement amount.
  5. A sketch and loose plan of the overall design must be submitted at the September 24, 2024 Homecoming Meeting. At this time, a Lincoln Fire Inspector, may review each sketch to assure compliance with the above stated regulations.
  6. Any extension cords used must be 3 pronged or grounded extension cords.

Neither the Homecoming Steering Committee, FSL, nor UNL are responsible for injuries, damages, or other destruction that results from the planning, construction, development, or displaying of Lawn Displays. By participating in the Lawn Display event, you agree to hold UNL and all affiliated entities harmless and furthermore agree to the above.
